Perinatal & Postpartum Counselling

For many individuals being pregnant is a time for celebration, transformation and growth, quite literally. However, pregnancy, parenting and mothering can also be a time which gives way to the possibility of challenges emotionally and physically. Counselling and support can help parents navigate the often intense and overwhelming physical and emotional transitions that come with becoming pregnant and/or becoming a parent, such as sleep deprivation, feeding, hormonal changes, and loss of identity.

Whether you are a first time parent, adoptive parent, birthing or non birthing parent, solo-parenting or parenting with the support of partner(s) the perinatal and postpartum period can invoke challenging and sometimes even scary feelings. While this can be confusing and distressing,  much of this is normal and often rooted in overwhelming demands, unmet needs and expectations about motherhood and/or parenthood in general.

Hazel & Teal Therapy also offers counselling and supportive services to individuals, parents, and families who have experienced reproductive and birth trauma, attachment and intergenerational trauma, and pregnancy and birth related grief and loss.

Some folks may hesitate to talk about how they are feeling because they don’t recognize they are struggling or because they think they are “bad mothers” because they are not coping, or they may feel embarrassed, guilty or resentful, worry about being labelled or stigmatized, some may worry that a therapist might minimize or dismiss their fears and concerns.
